Yes. It is mandatory for all land owners in Victoria to register any pool or spa on their property.

You only have to register your pool/spa once. This will stay on the council register until it is removed.

As a renter, it is not your responsibility to register the pool/spa; this is the owner’s obligation. Notify your agent to do this on your behalf as this is a mandatory requirement in Victoria.

All swimming pools and spas built/installed after 31 May 2020 must lodge their certificate within 30 days after receiving the occupancy permit or certificate of final inspection. You must lodge your certificate of barrier compliance at the same time as your registration application.

Yes. Covers are not considered to be safe and do not comply with current safety barrier regulations. You must have an independent barrier and have this inspected.

If you do not register your pool or spa within the required period, you may face an on-the-spot fine of approximately $330 or a penalty of up to $1,652.20. If the council becomes aware of the pool or spa on your property, they will send you a written notice requiring you to register the pool or spa. You will also be required to pay the registration fee and information search fee (if applicable).

The barrier must be inspected every four years to remain compliant.

Relocatable (moveable or portable) pools and spas on land that you own must be registered if they are erected for three or more consecutive days.

·       If it was erected before 1 November 2020 for at least 3 consecutive days and remains erected on 1 November 2020, you must register by 4 November 2020.

·       if it was erected on or after 1 November 2020 and remains erected for 3 consecutive days, you must register the pool or spa on the fourth day after it was erected.

If your relocatable pool or spa is only in place for a period less than three consecutive days, there is no need to apply for registration.
